VIETNAMESE PLASTIC BEADS AND SYNTHETIC RUBBER

Primary plastic beads and synthetic rubber are important inputs for many industries, especially plastics and cars. Production of synthetic rubber produced and consumed in 9T/2018 was respectively 11,403 and 11,578 thousand tons. Global synthetic rubber market is expected to continue to grow with an annual compound growth rate of 5.1% in the period of 2015 - 2023.

Estimated in Q1/2019, Vietnam's polymer consumption volume increased by 5.4% compared to the same period in 2018. Total export of plastic materials in Vietnam increased strongly by 32.6% in volume and 62.1% in value over the same period in 2018 Meanwhile, the total import of plastic materials in the first 3 months of this year increased by 12.7% in volume and 4.1% in value over the same period in 2018.

Synthetic rubber imports 2018 increased by 16.2% compared to 2017 while synthetic rubber exports decreased by 32.6% compared to 2017. Vietnam's main synthetic rubber import markets include Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China and Thailand in which Korea is the leading market accounted for 28.36% of total turnover.

2018 is a difficult year for domestic enterprises manufacturing and trading plastic raw materials, although the revenue grew but the profitability and performance evaluation criteria declined due to the increase in oil price, the fierce competition with imports of better quality and more favorable prices,...
